Annual Swimmafun

The Sponsored Swim is the Club’s longest running annual fund-raising event and probably the longest running such event in the Borough, raising annually sums in excess of £6000. The latest Swimmafun was held on Sunday 25th April 2010 at Ynysawdre Swimming Pool.

Swim

In 2008/9 our estimate of the financial value of the Swim to the community since it’s inception in the early 1980’s is around £130,000.

Many local charities, community groups , Guides, Scouts, PTAs, Sports Clubs etc raise funds for their projects by entering a team of swimmers who get themselves sponsored for the number of lengths of the pool swum by the group in an hour.

All participants receive a certificate from the Lions and all teams receive a commemorative plaque in recognition of their achievement.

Sponsorship income is shared 50/50 with the Lions. Our half pays all of the expenses incurred in running the event and the remaining profit is distributed to many causes via our charity account, often being returned to participant groups in one way or another.

In addition to the funds raised, significant social and health benefits are gained by the mainly young participants who enter enthusiastically into the spirit of the event and enjoy the experience of swimming with their friends for the good of their group.

Teams swim for one hour in relay with 6 lanes available each hour. If you have a team who would like to participate, or would like any further information then please use our Contact page to get in touch with us.
