New for 2010 - Bridgend Lions Festival of Races

Bridgend Town Centre Saturday 19th June 2010

This brand new event brings together Bridgend Lions, Bridgend Athletic Club, Welsh Athletics and Bridgend Festivals to provide an afternoon of quality road racing in Bridgend Town Centre.

The races will take place over a period of 3 to 4 hours on the Saturday evening of June 19th commencing at 4.00pm. Our premier event will be an elite men’s and women’s 5000m challenge, but there will also be four Primary Schools Challenge Mile Races for year 5 boys, year 5 girls, year 6 boys and year 6 girls together with an under 13’s Mile and under 15's 3000m, under 17's 3000m.

While these races are taking place a series of 50m sprints open to all-comers, timed with professional photo finish equipment, will be held in Adare St culminating in a grand final of the 4 best times to establish Bridgend’s fastest individual.

Shortly after the sprint final the main event will take place, which will be a 5000m race for elite athletes – these will be top athletes from Wales and beyond who will travel to Bridgend to take part in what is hoped will become one of the top events in the Welsh athletic calendar. The final events will consist of  two 5000m events for aspiring athletes and fun runners respectively.
