Bridgend Leos have recently been formed as a junior branch of the Lions Club of Bridgend

Leos are young Lions aged 12-21. Bridgend Lions help by paying for things the club needs to get started and we actively support the club in every way necessary. However, it is a club run by its own members and funds raised by the club are administered by the members themselves. This is a key difference to most clubs, where they are generally run by adults for young people.

So if the Leos decide they want to raise money for a good cause, then the money made from that event would go to that cause. Or the club could raise money and then discuss and decide how best to use that money.  If they help us with an event we would give the Leos a donation. We would help with ideas for events and offer help where it was asked for. There is a Leo Advisor appointed by the Lions club to help the Leos.

What do young people get out of being a Leo?

  • Chances for real-life community experience, teenagers being seen to be doing something positive.

  • Real experience in running meetings, managing finance, responsibility for running events.

  • Taking responsibility for community projects and social awareness, the types of skills and experiences that employers, universities and colleges are looking for.

  • Development of personal and interpersonal skills, transferable into future employment possibilities.

  • Public speaking, running meetings, understanding finance, effective action planning, marketing of events, liaison with the press.

  • Travel and meeting with others from abroad through Lions Youth Exchange Youth Camp and Youth Leaders

  • Developing skills that will help with further education.

And not to forget…..

Social activities, within the club and with other Leo clubs, meeting  other people and having some fun!!

What does a Leos club do?

Basically whatever the members want to do. Examples of what other Young Lions clubs get involved with include:
Community Projects, Environmental Projects, Run a stall perhaps at a fete, Support in elderly outings, Clean windows, run a Band night. Tidy up community gardens.  Assist in Lions events. Sponsored activities. Car parking/ Car Wash.

The ideas are as large and as varied as the imaginations and abilities of the members of the club !!!
