Started in 2004 was the Bridgend County Borough Individual Chess Championship, which is sponsored by the Lions Club of Bridgend and run as a joint venture with Bridgend Chess Club. The first tournament was held in November 2004 and is now established as an annual event. The next tournament is on Saturday 29th May 2010 at the Evergreeen Hall, Bridgend. The tournament is very well organised by the Bridgend Chess Club with all competitors playing 5 games of up to 50 minutes duration. Every effort is made to place together players of the same or similar expertise so that all players enjoy a well balanced match.
