Tree of Light Dedication

On a cold, wet evening, the sweet carol singing of the children’s choir from St Mary’s Primary School warmed the hearts of the crowd packed into the foyer of St Mary’s RC Church, Ewenny Road, Bridgend for the service to celebrate the illumination of the Lions Club’s Christmas Tree of Light.

Father Isaac, who led the service, welcomed all and expressed his thanks to the Lions and to those who had sponsored lights in memory of loved ones, adding that their donations would benefit two causes, the Peter Ryan Appeal and Bridgend Samaritans.
Commenting afterwards, Terry Harris, President of Bridgend Lions Club said that it had been a delightful service and he was pleased that, as a result of the generosity of the sponsors, he could announce donations of £1000 to each of this year’s causes.
The Tree will remain illuminated at the church until 6th January and Father Isaac welcomes all to call in and view it and the remembrance board.
Donations are still being accepted. Sponsor forms are available by clicking here.
Book Sale
The One Day Book Clearance Sale at Bridgend YMCA on the 15th October 2011 was a great success with large numbers turning up despite the attraction of the Wales v France rugby on the same day..
All books were sold at HALF PRICE based on the selling price at the March Book Fair and we raised over £1,500 on the event.
Walk in the Park
Our Walk in the Park with Derek Brockway (Wales' best known weatherman) was on the 9th October at the excellent Bryngarw Park. Further details are on the main Walk in the Park page. This event helped local charities to raise much needed funds for themselves.
Duck Race
The weather and high level of the river prevented us from safely running the Duck Race on 17th September. We apologise if you turned up to watch the race but as it is difficult to rearrange for another day we held a draw at Bridgend Deaf Club on Friday 23rd September 2011.
The winning numbers were 1st Prize 0100; 2nd Prize 1550; 3rd Prize 0633. All winners live in Bridgend and have been notified notified by telephone.

New Member
As a long time active helper at our annual charity book fair and other events, Sarah Harris has decided that it’s time for her to sign up and officially join our club.

Sarah, pictured above receiving her membership certificate from President Terry Harris, was welcomed into the club by President Terry who said that Sarah would be an asset to the club and its fund raising activities and he hoped that others would be inspired to join the club in its service to charities and the community.
Sarah started helping the club as a volunteer with St John Ambulance spending many hours at the Lions book sales waiting for a call to attend the sick or injured, which thankfully never came. Not being content to sit quietly practicing her first aid, she started sorting and selling the books so often that she became one of the club’s regular helpers.
Bridgend Lions Club is actively seeking new members who would like to give some time to helping others whilst enjoying a fulfilling sociable pastime. Membership is open to all over 18,
